Celebrating International Women’s Day

Yuengling

The bond between siblings is something that is to be cherished. In many instances, family businesses are passed along to siblings, sometimes for generations. In the case of Yuengling, America’s oldest brewery, four sisters, Jen, Wendy, Debbie, and Sheryl Yuengling, have taken on the responsibility of carrying on a nearly 200-year-old tradition.

As the years passed, each of the four sisters transitioned into the leadership roles that they now hold. Jen oversees all of the brewery operations, holding Vice President of Operations, Wendy handles all things marketing-related as Chief Administrative Officer, Debbie handles sales and pricing as Sales Administration and Pricing Manager, and Sheryl serves as Order Services Administrator. With 78-year-old Dick Yuengling at the helm, Yuengling continues to carry on its tradition of making excellent beer while keeping the business run by family members.

Yuengling has introduced three new additions to their product line within the last two years, Golden Pilsner, FLIGHT, and most recently, Raging Eagle. Innovation is something that Yuengling is not known for, as their Lager accounts for a large portion of their business. The sisters worked together and decided that in order for them to succeed, and pave the way for future generations, they must adhere to the times and interests of our consumers to create more innovation.

Fisher’s Island Lemonade

Fishers Island Lemonade, a woman-owned business headquartered in North Stonington, Connecticut which launched in 2014. It all got started on Fishers Island in New York.  Bronya Shillo, founder and CEO of Fishers Island Lemonade, started as a house cocktail at the relatively obscure Pequot Inn and has evolved into one of the fastest growing canned beverages in the US.  More than just its unique origin story, the brand’s growth has leveraged a point of distinction within the liquid itself: it’s one of the only canned craft cocktail brands made with a dual-spirits base—a combination of premium vodka and whiskey, with notes of lemon and honey.

Consumers are becoming increasingly receptive to the quality that comes with a spirit core. As are gluten-free drinkers, who are forced to avoid flavored malt beverages altogether.  Shillo, for her part, has never wavered in her approach, keeping her recipe consistent since day one.  The brand is introducing its first-ever line extension. Joining the original Lemonade on shelves will be a 7% ABV Spiked Tea as well as a Pink Flamingo. A 5% ABV Fishers Island Fizz will provide a lighter, effervescent alternative to the original offering. There’s even going to be a frozen variation—Lemonade Spirit Pops

Qu.Ale

Female winemaker, Alessandra Quarta, produces Qu.Ale in a warm climate of Puglia, utilizing only organic grapes and sustainable farming techniques. Plus, you can feel good while sipping on this wine as a portion of every bottle sale goes to the charity of the consumer’s choice.  This wine is part of a dynamic and responsible project designed by Alessandra the daughter of Claudio Quarta, owner of the Tenuta Emera.

PRESS Hard Seltzer

PRESS was co-founded by Amy Walberg and her business partner Jim Sorenson in 2015 and has already achieved a top-10 position in the seltzer category. Voted the best tasting Seltzer by Selzterland, PRESS  has strong product quality and unique premium flavors such as Blackberry Hibiscus, Pomegranate Ginger, Lime Lemongrass, and Grapefruit Cardamom. PRESS is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is made with a lower alcohol by volume (ABV 4%) for consumers who prefer lower ABV drinks, and to allow PRESS’ complex flavors to break through.

Glasstown Brewing

A small craft brewery in Millville, New Jersey specializing in making quality craft beer in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.  Owned and Operated by Jen & Paul Simmons.

Glasstown recently celebrated their 8th Anniversary in February.  It was a celebration of success and the trusted relationship that Glasstown has enveloped over the years with its customers, loyal staff, and the communities they serve. For Jen and Paul, it was a glorious event that made them reminisce of a plane flight in January 2013, when they were traveling to Mexico to celebrate their honeymoon. Rather than drinking champagne on the plane, the newlywed couple instead wrote the business plan on what would become the 13th brewery in the state of New Jersey.

Trinity Flavors

While sitting on the beaches of Sea Isle City, NJ Kathleen Pires was talking about how many times she has enjoyed the Transfusion Cocktail at her local country club.  She wondered wouldn’t it be great if we could get a transfusion in a can? It is with that same entrepreneurial spirit and confidence inspired by her uncle that Trinity Flavors began and it’s been a beautiful journey ever since.

When Kathleen launched Trinity Flavors back in 2017, she never really knew the impact that she would be having on an industry that was predominantly male. It’s important to me that we continue to diversify this industry and I’m happy to be a part of a shifting culture and influence in the spirit’s world. If I inspire one woman to take the leap and believe in herself and her ideas, then I will consider my job done!
