SUMMERS AT THE JERSEY SHORE WOULD NOT BE THE SAME without a visit to one of Kix McNutley’s five essential bars on 63rd Street in Sea Isle City. In their 54th year, the Kix establishment is family owned and operated with Lenny Desiderio at the helm. Celebrating his 44th year as president, Lenny is still very much involved in the day-to-day operations, handling the beer, wine and spirit orders for the Kix bars and Kix Package Goods. Carmela Desiderio, Vice President of Kix McNutley’s and third-generation owner talked to Heady Times about their mission to create a guest experience that fits any occasion, mood, or festivity.
Heady Times (HT): One roof, many options. What can guests expect when they visit any of the five bars?
Carmela Desiderio (CD): There is always something going on at Kix. Our five bars have five different personalities. Kix McNutley’s Nightclub has some of the best entertainment in the area with bands such as the Sensational Soul Cruisers, The Chatterband, B-Street Band, The Heartbeats, and E-Street Shuffle. Our Summer Sunday Fundays have become an enormous hit featuring a 12-piece party band called “Heartbeats.”
SideKix Lounge offers indoor and outdoor seating. Kix Patio Bar, located in front of our motel, the Sea Isle Inn, serves all your favorite summer beers and drinks.
Kix Stand opened in 1965 and is known as “America’s Premier Parking Lot Bar.” It is a favorite for many vacationers during the summer months. The Kit Kat Club is “Sea Isle’s Smallest Bar with the Biggest Heart” that sits inside Kix Package Goods. With Lottery and Quick Draw available, it has become a great spot for locals and regulars to have a draft beer, play the Lottery, or watch a game.
HT: You pride yourself on always standing by your customers. What does this mean to Kix?
CD: At Kix, we try to offer the best possible service to our customers and go about it in an honest fashion. Meeting new customers and greeting our regular customers is something we enjoy most about our business. We also rely on customer recommendations to determine what beers to carry.
HT: Community service is a pillar of your business. What are some of the special events throughout the year that are worth noting?
CD: We have many activities on our property throughout the year. In February, we participate in the Polar Bear Plunge Weekend festivities. In March, we host an annual benefit for Shriners Hospital for Children Philadelphia, and, for the past 30 years, we have sponsored the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Party. In June and September, we host Sea Isle’s Food Truck Festivals, which consist of three days of the finest food trucks in the tri-state area. November is our Cape May county Police Chief’s Holiday Dash for the Sea Isle Mayor’s Holiday Toy and Food Drive. Kix McNutley’s is also available for weddings, school reunions, birthday parties, and other special functions.
